I took this photo near Kanaker; near (Damascus-occupied Golan Heights) highway..
Hermon mounts (Jibal al Shaikh ) the highest mounts in great Syria
(bilad al sham) are still covered with snow and the earth is waking up.
So when it's spring time: go to hike, climb, and camp, go in a tour. Because if you stayed at home or only went to restaurants; you will be missing a lot.

Oh, yeah :) That's a really gorgeous picture... You can also see Mount Hermon from Jordan, so its really unbelieavable how tiny our countries are..
I would really LOVE to walk on and enjoy mount Hermon..But it is no longer Syrian..Isreal will never give it back, and Syrian government doesnt seem to dare to start peace negotitions anyway...fearing pepole will scream"traitor"..I can't tell you how sad it makes me the hermon is gone.

i have a dream of Syria and jordan being a one country, or with special political relations when people can cross the borders without noticing that.

Thanks Nurhan, i think it was called Al Sheik (the old man), because it's covered by Snow most of the year (for 8 months)

Catherine, I think that you need to brush up a bit on your politics. Syria and its president have repeatedly requested a resumption of peace negotiations with Israel, almost three times since the beginning of the year. Sharon's government has refused every single time. Contrary to what you claim, a peace with Israel will strengthen the Syrian regime and no one in Syria will "scream traitor" if the Golan is returned for peace with Israel....

Oh, yeah, since you seem to know a lot about Syria, I was wondering if you knew anything about the sword industry in Damascus. It was very famous in the 11th century... Is it still there?

Roba: there no longer sword Industry in Damascus, only some models for decoration, most of them are low skills fabricated.
but fabricating swords was a very important job, and we still have families that carry the sword fabrication name:
Al Siyoufi.
they were wealthy and well known families.
there was a Souk near the citadel specially for military fabrications, but it was destroyed, and a street is built in its place.
oh ok, thanks a lot for sharing. that's really really unfortunate.. I do wish we Arabs are better at grasping into what we know how to do! I saw some examples of old Damascene swords, and oh my God, they're absolutely stunning.. some of the most beautiful things I've ever seen in my life. It's really, really too bad that they're not made anymore.
