Aramaic Village

Jaba3deen
Originally uploaded by amrtheproud.

Aramaic is the language that Jesus Christ spoke 2000 years ago to spread his morals among people.
As an important information, the inhabitants are Muslims, so it's not like most of us think, not everyone who speaks Aramaic or Assyrian should be a Christian.
The village is so Close to Maloula and Rankous. (45 km of Damascus).

as they call themselves Assyrians I can say nothing!
but I don't think they are Arabs and speak Assyrian, that will be pretty strange to speak the language of a minority while the whole minority can speak Arabic.

I, like other who commented, didn't know that Muslims spoke these ancient languages as well. I find that totally appealing because it simply shows the unity of humanity the way it should be. At least that's how it seems to me.

Thanks for sharing this new info with us. :)

I was in medical school in syria in the seventies ,that is propably befor many of you ere born ,i was doing internship at the children hospital when we took care of a child from maalola who spoke Aramiac only, because his family insisted on speaking Aramiac, they were muslems, the Aramiac people and the asserian are all Arabs not because they speak Arabic but because they came from arabia origenaly they are the semetic people with semetic languegs, when Islam came many local people encuding aramiacs and asserian became moslems, yes some came with the spread of Islam but islam spread by the local people addopting the new religion ,naim/Usa from the syrian orthodox church and aramiac is the languege of our church and i am proud to be an Arab syrian.

the Arabs are the semetic people who left Arabia during the drout throghout histery and setled in syria ,mesopthonia and egypt .look out the semetic people and their origin it is ARABIA.and that is why they are called Arabs.

Does anyone know of a Assyrian town called Gulpasha? My grandfather was from there and we are researching any thing we can learn. His name was Paul Adam and left around 1910. He spoke Aramaic and we have been unable to translate his bible or writings? Any one out there have any knowledge?

Many commments here that people are leaving are based on conjenction adn not facts. Aramaic became the lingua franca of the Mesopotamian and Shaam region at one time and many people adopted it, Persians, Israelites, Arabs, etc. So now just because someone speaks Aramaic or Syriac it doesnt automaticly classify them as being an ethnic Assyrian, just as if one speaks Arabic it doesnt make them an Arab, Me and my wife we speak classical/quranic arabic at home, along with our children, i am european and my wife somali...culturo identities may easily shift from one to another, eg turkey may non turkish people became turkified arabs, syriacs, armenians, kurds and in egypt many non arabs became arabised eg Greeks, Turks, Copts, Mongols etc. The same thing is happening in europe now where thye want us to give up our identities and be european first, which i am not, i am a muslim first...

All these are not new things to me since i live in this area. There is a lot of lack of knowledge.
All these aramaic speaking people belongs to the Aramean nation that lived in Mesopotamia before the Arabs invaded this region from Saudi Arabia their own homeland. They occupied the area and forced people to adopt ISlam and then these adopted later the Arabic language which is the Quran language the official language for the Arabs. Aramean christians switched to speaking Arabic lately on 13th century only and some of them kept it until today like Aramean Syrian christians, Aramean Maronite, Caldeans and Assyrians. The Muslims speaking Aramaic were Islamized by force and this protected them from loosing their Aramaic language, they were christians before that. To all who are interested, there are a lot of books and ancient documents talking about the true history of the region before Arabization and islamization was forced in the region. There are documents about history of this region in Aramic scripts preserved in large museums like Loover and british museum. To all people especially on the Arab side that deny the existence of our nation before they occupied us and write fake books about the history so people won't know, i say one thing: You can not ignore what is written by your own Arab writers about our Aramean Christian nation in Mesopotamia, and what was written by westerners about us and what was written by us in Aramaic scripts about the invasion of our land and how we were badly and aggressevly treated until some of us became Muslims and then spoke arabic to hide from evil.
until these days, they kill Caldeans and Assyrians and MAronites in Lebanon because they nsist to preserve their identity but muslims speaking aramaic they don't touch because they don't mention the facts of the area and accept the New Arab rulers on Mesopetamia.
If the Arabs were not kicked out of spain, then they will now be claiming that Arabs came from Arabia also and spanish people are also ethnically Arabs. May God protect the original Arameans, Jews and others from their evil and desire to control all the Area

Sorry but this is the true story of the development of this area.

A pround Aramean Maronite

I am not here to defend any one really. I am from Damascus and I live in damascus. in order to know my origins and to really challenge what I already know I started reading english book related to the history of this part of the world. I wanted to know about Babel, sumar, aram and about the jews. you can't really say that people who live in Syria are arabs. If you look at their faces and bone structures you will find that there are so many ethnicities .. so many cultures has influenced this part of the world. so no you can't say that people here are arabs. some might have come from jazeera where ksa is now.. but there are original people who were living here.
I look at people and I see some who looked roman.. some looked white like some euoropeans with blue eyes.. and some had the african bone structure.. so it is mixed...
and the fact that I speak arabic now and I live on what is supposedly arabic land that doesn't mean that I might not have been aramiac, kanaani, or babeli, turkish, greek, roman or even jewish decendent.
now don't forget the fact the origin of the jewish people which is ibrahim came from OR which is a city in Iraq.. and the moved to kanaan which is palestine then they went to egypt.. then came back tgo kanaan.. so you really can't tell... cus .. so many cultures have invaded this part of the world for its strategic geographical place and I really don't think that the jews are much different that those who live this part of the world they all come from the same father..
any way...
the other point is .. please don't be so angry for what you call as invasion of the arabs/muslims to this area... that was the habit back then .. where every powerful culture or civilzation would invade its neigbours to control the trade roads...
it has happened to many nations in different circumstances and it wasn't fair.
look what happened to armenians..
look what happened to native americans..
and what about native australians...
it is not fair ...
now my delama is ... who am I ? and who are my ancestors?
are they arabs? greek? romans? aramiac? what? I wish I could know...

This is a Christian village in Syria and those who speak the Aramaic language still, and proud of it, are Christians, followers of the Syriac Orthodox Church (Anti-Chalcedonian).

i have no idea what ur talking about, i am lebanese, and i dont know were ur caliming that "they kill Caldeans and Assyrians and MAronites in Lebanon" specially since the government is christain.
now who denied the history of the middle east? of course it was aramaic, obvouisly isa / jesus didnt speak arabic.
but hey what about ghassasinds, they lived in the middle east since 3AD, they wee arabs, and adopted christainity. then later 12,000 of them defected to muslims in battle of yarmuk.
point is i dont believe they were forced to convert, after the invasion of Khaled ibn walid. non-muslims paid Jizya (tax) period.
